Grand Junction is covered in 4×4 trails and crawling with off-roaders. If you’re an avid off-roader, you’ve probably visited before. If you haven’t, we suggest seriously considering planning a Grand Junction outing.
Here are the top 4 hardest trails in Grand Junction.
4. Lion’s Loop
Lion’s Loop is an exhilarating ride, featuring challenging inclines, thrilling descents, and technical passages that demand both skill and composure. Its most notable obstacle is “Lion’s Leap”, a sharp turn on a descending rock staircase. It’s a difficult ride, but it will reward you for your efforts at the end of the day with a mesmerizing sunset. With its blend of natural beauty and adrenaline-pumping challenges, Lion’s Loop leaves an indelible mark on Colorado’s outdoor landscape.
3. Coon Hollow
This road is driven less often than others in the area, but not because it is lacking. Coon Hollow is not a technically difficult drive, but its obstacles are a nasty gut punch to the nerves. The trail is almost entirely off-camber like a twisted roller coaster. Off-camberness is a feature that some people consider more trouble than it’s worth, and it certainly makes any obstacle significantly tougher. However, if you’re an extreme off-roader, we figure you think like us: the more challenging, the better.
2. Billings Canyon
Billings Canyon is made of boulders, ledges, and restricted line options. Do not attempt this trail if you are inexperienced and make certain you have the minimum equipment required. Body damage is likely and there is a high risk of engine failure. This trail requires constant attention. There are expansive boulder fields, a 6ft waterfall climb, and technical challenges throughout. Most obstacles have winch points– remember to use them.
1. 21 Road
21 Road is another off-camber trail that will pump adrenaline through your veins like an insane roller coaster. Extreme Jeeps and souped-up buggies come from all over to attempt it. It’s unsurprising (and well deserved) that this trail has become as well known as it is: it’s crazy. The trail starts fairly mild and gets harder and harder as it progresses. The beginning follows a wash through Hunter Canyon and corrals you towards huge boulders, towering ledges, and mechanical failure risk. It’s ridiculously difficult.
These trails are the epitome of intense and a world-class thrill. Grand Junction does not play around.
