Moab is one of the most popular places to off-road in the world. Among the most amazing of all the trails, Hell’s Revenge Trail is at the top of the list. It’s extremely difficult due to hazardous terrain and is recommended for only very experienced drivers with advanced equipment. The route is approximately 6.5 miles in length and takes 2-3 hours to navigate, maybe longer if you run some of the more difficult obstacles.

4 of the most extreme obstacles on the Hells Revenge trail:

Obstacle 1: Escalator

Another optional obstacle from the Hell’s Revenge Trail is the Escalator obstacle. Near the end of the trail you’ll see a turnoff to the right and a bunch of tire tracks heading up a natural cut in the slickrock. Escalator is comprised of several stair-stepped climbs with nearly undercut faces.

Obstacle 2: Hell’s Gate

Roughly halfway through the Hell’s Revenge Trail you’ll find the turn off for Hell’s Gate. Hell’s Gate is a horseshoe-shaped optional offshoot that takes you down a steep slickrock descent. Once you drop in, you’re committed, there is no bypass or easier way back up.

Obstacle 4: Devil’s Hot Tub

Before you come down the Dragon’s Tail on Hell’s Revenge trail, you’ll pass a few different hot tubs. There are several on the trail, but the three most famous that you can drive through are the Carwash, Mickey’s, and Devil’s Hot Tub. Devil’s Hot Tub is the widest, deepest, and steepest.

Obstacle 4: Tip-Over Challenge

Tip Over Challenge is the last official obstacle you’ll encounter on Moab’s famous Hells Revenge trail. Tip Over Challenge obstacle is a double ledge that is slightly off.
